What is a Russian manicure?

Unlike the conventional manicure most of us are familiar with, the Russian manicure delves into meticulousness. Originating from Russia, this technique swaps the traditional cuticle clippers for electric drills with various attachments, ensuring every nook and cranny is accounted for.

What is the difference between a gel manicure and a Russian manicure?

While a gel manicure is centered on the type of polish and its lasting finish, a Russian manicure emphasizes meticulous cuticle care and preparation of the nail. They can be combined, however: one could get a Russian manicure to prep the nails and then have a gel polish applied for a long-lasting, polished look.

The technique: precision at its finest

Nail Preparation

The first step involves thoroughly cleaning and preparing the nails. Using an electric nail drill, the master removes old polish and sanitises the nail surface. This initial preparation ensures a clean working area and helps identify any potential nail imperfections. The drill is used gently to remove surface debris and create a smooth foundation for the subsequent steps.

Cuticle Removal

In this critical stage, a specialized flame-shaped drill bit is used to meticulously lift and remove cuticles. The master works with extreme precision, carefully cleaning the lateral nail sinuses and removing dead skin around the nail edges. This step requires significant skill to ensure minimal damage to the nail bed while creating a clean, seamless transition between the skin and nail.

Nail Shaping

Using an electric file, the master shapes the nails to the desired contour - whether round, square, or almond-shaped. The process involves smoothing the nail surface, removing any ridges, and creating a perfect canvas for polish application. Careful buffing ensures the nail bed is perfectly prepared and creates an ideal surface for long-lasting polish adhesion.

Gel Polish Application

This step focuses on precise and flawless polish application. The master applies a base coat, followed by carefully brushed gel polish, working very close to the cuticle line for a seamless look. Each layer is cured under a UV or LED lamp, ensuring perfect adhesion and a smooth, even finish. Attention to detail is crucial during this step to achieve a professional, long-lasting result.

Finishing and Hydration

The final step involves sealing and protecting the manicure. A top coat is applied and cured to provide shine and protection. The master then massages cuticle oil into the nails and surrounding skin, providing essential hydration and promoting nail health. A final inspection ensures every detail is perfect, with any excess polish carefully cleaned up for a pristine finish.

Frequently asked questions

Naked Manicure

No, Russian manicures are not extensions

While Russian manicures can be combined with nail extensions, the two are not synonymous. Russian manicure is primarily a technique for natural nail care, while extensions involve adding artificial tips or overlays to the nails

Do you do BIAB?

BIAB (Builder In A Bottle) is a type of builder gel that strengthens and extends your natural nails and is the same as the Gel Manicure treatment we offer

Gel or Hard Gel

Gel is a type of nail enhancement that involves applying a thick layer of hard gel to the nail, which is then shaped and cured under a UV or LED light.

Hard gel manicure is ideal for individuals with weak or brittle nails.

Do Russian manicures last longer?

Russian manicures typically last 3 to 5 weeks, compared to 2 to 3 weeks for traditional gel manicures. This longevity is attributed to the meticulous cuticle work, which allows polish to be applied closer to the cuticle area without lifting.
